In a moving tribute to Greek heritage and history, the Consulate of Greece in Perth organised a Wreath Laying Ceremony at Kings Park’s War Memorial last Sunday.

The event marked the 203rd Anniversary of the National Day of Greece and drew a large crowd.

The ceremony commenced with a blessing by Reverend Fathers, led by Bishop Elpidios.

This was followed by heartfelt poems and songs performed by the students of St. Andrew’s Grammar, WA, the Immaculate Heart College, and the Greek Language and Culture Institute of Evangelismos.

Officials and distinguished guests from Australia and Greece paid their respects by laying wreaths, a symbolic gesture of remembrance and honour.

Among them were Georgia Karasiotou, the Consul of Greece in Perth, the Honourable Chris Dawson AC APM, Governor of WA, and Dr Tony Buti MLA, representing the Premier of WA.

The ceremony concluded with inspiring speeches by Ms Karasiotou, Mr Dawson and Dr Buti, highlighting the enduring bond between Greece and Australia and the shared values of democracy and freedom.
