Actor Vangelis Mourikis adds another accolade to his impressive career, receiving recognition at the 48th Hong Kong International Film Festival for his outstanding performance in “Arcadia” directed by Yorgos Zois.
The film made its global debut in the competitive Encounters section of the 74th Berlin International Film Festival and has since garnered acclaim at various other festivals.
In “Arcadia” a fatal car accident shatters the winter calm of a tourist resort. Yiannis and Katerina arrive, shocked, to identify the victim at the local hospital. Together and apart, they attempt to piece together the fragments of the lost life, confronting a series of unforeseen revelations.
Mourikis spent many years in Melbourne where he studied and worked, most recently starring in local filmmaker Alkinos Tsilimodos’ film “The Taverna”. He returned to Greece in the 1990s where he has worked in independent cinema. He has won a number of awards as leading and supporting actor and has collaborated with many notable directors, such as Thodoros Maragos, Yannis Economides, Nikos Grammatikos, Pantelis Voulgaris, Athina Rachel Tsangari, Georgis Grigorakis and others.
In 2021 Georgis Grigorakis’ film “Digger”, starring Mourikis and Argyris Pandazaras, represented Greece in the 94th Academy Awards in the Foreign Film category garnering positive reviews.
