Critically acclaimed theatre show The Audition is back in Melbourne, looking at the lives of performing artists who were also asylum seekers.

Directed by Greek Australian Irine Vela, The Audition peels back the layers of the audition process to uncover what it means to seek asylum.

The asylum seeker shares something in common with the artist in Australia. They are both outsiders of uncertain status.

The play is inspired by two artists, Milad Norouzi and Sahra Davoudi who were also asylum seekers while developing and creating the work.

As creators and performers, it’s described that “they imbue the show with a tension and truth that is palpable, poetic and at times absurd.”

Among the writing cohort are fellow Greek Australians Christos Tsiolkas and Tess Lyssiotis, and cast members Evangelos Arabatzis and Cypriot Australian Mary Sitarenos.

In 2019, Peter Paltos featured in the show.

Bookings can be made at the Outer Urban Projects website.
