Teen actor Ava Caryofyllis has earned a nomination for a Logie wherein she will battle it out with five others for the crown of Most Popular New Talent.
The nominations for this year’s awards were revealed on Sunday, with Ava Caryofyllis earning a place on the list for the Graham Kennedy Award for Most Popular New Talent.
Ava has raised her profile with her role as Iris Heikkinen in ABC’s crime drama and dark comedy series ‘Bay of Fires’, and the Logie stands as a sign of validation for her work.
“My wife Nicole and I are extremely proud of this nomination,” Ava’s father Andy told Neos Kosmos.
“It is a wonderful recognition of the work she has been putting in since she was very young and also a testament to how well the show ‘Bay of Fires’ was received.”
Ava’s father commended the tremendous cast in which his daughter has worked with on the show, noting in particular the co-creator of the show, Marta Dusseldorp, who also plays Ava’s character Iris’s mother Stella.
He elaborated on the series, explaining that Ava’s character is one of Stella’s two children with the family being forced to move from Melbourne to a secluded fictitious town in Tasmania called Mystery Bay.
The filming saw Ava work away from her native Sydney, an experience which her father stated proved quite rewarding.
“It has been an incredible experience for Ava, living away from home in Queenstown, Tasmania, where she spent 15 weeks filming,” he said.
“She made many friends with the cast and crew and got a real sense of what her character would be going through, similar to the script.”
‘Bay of Lies’ represents one of many acting jobs Ava has earned, having actively performed since she was just five years old.

In her young career, she has already appeared in numerous TV shows and films, including a brief role in Marvel’s ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ wherein she portrayed a young version of Natalie Portman’s character Jane Foster.
“We are absolutely blown away by the opportunities she has had already at the age of 13 and continues to get,” said Ava’s father, whose parents were born in Alexandria and had roots from Andros and Smyrna (paternal side), and Corinth (maternal side).
Ava will have competition from her own show as she goes head-to-head with her onscreen brother, Imi Mbedla.
The winner of Ava’s category will be based on public vote via the Logies website.
The ceremony for the 64th Logies will be held in Sydney on 18 August, with TV comedian Sam Pang to serve as host.
