The Panagia Kamarianni Festival in Red Hill, organised by the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia and the Holy Monastery of Panagia Kamarianni, attracted hundreds of faithful over the weekend to celebrate the Virgin Mary.

Held annually to mark the Nativity of the Theotokos, the festival is one of the most significant feasts of the Orthodox Church. By blending religious and cultural elements, it offers the Greek-Australian community a valuable opportunity to strengthen their bonds and connections.

This longstanding tradition helps bridge younger generations with their ancestors’ cultural heritage, fostering unity and cohesion within the community.

The Panagia Kamarianni Festival provides a wonderful chance to experience authentic Greek hospitality, savour traditional cuisine, enjoy live music, and partake in a day filled with faith, joy, and tradition.

The event began on Saturday, 7 September, with the Great Festal Vespers, which included the traditional blessing of the bread (Artoklasia).

The following day, Sunday, 8 September, a Festal Divine Liturgy took place, with the celebrations reaching their peak during the procession of the icon of Panagia Kamarianni.

After the religious ceremonies, the festival continued from 11.30am until late afternoon, offering attendees traditional Greek food, live entertainment, and children’s activities.
