Like all good things, even the best partnerships in football must eventually come to an end. Such was the fate for Valentini and the Oakleigh Cannons.
After two seasons of incredible success, the dashing striker bid farewell to his beloved Jack Edwards Reserve dressing room. Joining Chris Taylor’s team in 2023, Valentini left a lasting legacy with the Cannons – scoring 17 goals and providing 13 assists, leaving his teammates with cherished memories.
From Perth Glory to German club Eintracht Braunschweig 2, with a brief stop at Tus Erndtebruvk, Valentini’s journey has been one of consistent brilliance.
Returning to Australia to play for Avondale, he quickly earned a reputation as a top player in the league.
And his time with Oakleigh Cannons did not disappoint, with Valentini helping the team secure a league and Dockerty Cup title.
Sadly, personal reasons – including the need for a new home and increased obligations – prompted his departure.
But his impact on the team and their fans will never be forgotten.
We reached out to Akis Ionnas, the GM of the Oakleigh Cannons, for his take on the 28-year-old striker’s exit.
“Stefan, an incredible footballer, made the biggest contribution to winning last year’s Dockerty Cup and of course, this year’s championship. Unfortunately, his other commitments prevent him from remaining a member of our club”.
Stefan Valentini sent a heartfelt farewell message to the Cannons fans.
“I’ll always have a strong connection with the club. All the fans and people within the club made me feel special and supported me. I’m so happy that we delivered silverware, and I absolutely love this club. I’m proud to have achieved this for the Cannons. Thank you to the Board, Coaches, players, sponsors, and more importantly, our fans. You’ve been absolutely amazing.”
