The inaugural Multicultural Youth Awards, the first event of its kind in Australia dedicated to honouring exceptional achievements and contributions of multicultural youth in the community.

Organised by the Multicultural Youth Group (MYG) the awards ceremony will take place next weekend on October 5 at Victoria’s parliament house.

Twenty-six awards will be handed out recognising excellence in education, arts, and community leadership, from approximately 200 nominations.

The Multicultural Youth Awards will celebrate young individuals from a variety of cultural backgrounds across Australia.

Attendees will engage with diverse cultures through recognition awards, cultural performances, and storytelling, fostering intercultural understanding, empathy, and unity while breaking down stereotypes and promoting tolerance.

Dr Anne Aly, the federal minister for youth, will share a video message on the day while in-person speeches will be delivered by the Natalie Suleyman, Victorian minister for youth, and Liana Buchanan, commissioner for children and young people.

Additionally there will be a written message from the Victorian premier Jacinta Allan.

“On behalf of all Victorians, I want to send my heartfelt congratulations to all the nominees and winners of the Multicultural Youth Awards,” Allan said in a media release sent to Neos Kosmos.

“Victorians are proud of our diversity, because we know it is our strength. You’re the next generation of multicultural leaders, and you’re truly making a difference in your communities.

“These awards are an opportunity to celebrate your success and give you the recognition you deserve. Congratulations to each and every one of you. I hope you’re all very proud of your achievements and the contribution you’ve made to our state. I can’t wait to see what you do next.”

Minister for Youth, Natalie Suleyman and Multicultural Youth Awards Director Yusuf Liban echoed the same sentiments.
