Tzeli Hadjidimitriou’s documentary ‘Lesvia’ is preparing to debut in front of Australian audiences at the Melbourne Queer Film Festival (MQFF), sharing a unique story regarding Lesvos’ status as a cultural outpost that continues to attract people from all across the world.
The film is set to be screened next month with showings on 16 (6.15pm) and 23 November (1pm) at ACMI Cinemas, enlightening people on the small farming village of Eressos on the island where lesbian women from around the globe have been gathering since the late 70s.
Lesvos has long been associated with the love between women, with the international term ‘lesbian’ getting its name from the island.
Local filmmaker and photographer Tzeli Hadjidimitriou delves into the subject of how the island draws people in even today, incorporating a wealth of talking heads who have called the village of Eressos home.
The documentary will be one of 18 Australian premieres as part of the MGFF’s schedule.
