The 11th International Summer University, titled “Greek Language, Culture, and Media,” will focus on “Greek Diaspora Media: Challenges and Prospects for the Greek Language and Culture.”

The event will be held in Boston from May 24 to May 29, 2025, under the auspices of the Hellenic Parliament.

Hosted by the University of Ioannina’s Laboratory for the Study of Social Issues, Media, and Education and the Maliotis Cultural Center at Hellenic College in Boston, the summit will gather participants from prestigious institutions, including the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America and the Ecumenical Patriarchate, to discuss the critical role of Greek diaspora media in promoting and preserving Greek language and culture across continents.

The program, which offers free participation, welcomes journalists, educators, students, and professionals with a vested interest in the field.

Participants will explore key topics, such as the international impact of diaspora media on modern Greek culture, language preservation, representations of Greece, and diaspora media’s educational role. The event will also delve into media representations of contemporary crises, including economic, refugee, and climate challenges.

After a decade of successful editions, the International Summer University continues its tradition of collaboration with prominent international institutions, drawing support from entities like the European Parliament and Harvard’s Center for Hellenic Studies in Greece.

The program will feature contributions from prominent diaspora media outlets, such as Neos Kosmos in Australia, and will include academic and cultural partnerships across the Americas, Europe, Africa, and Asia.

This year’s program is directed by Professor Nikoletta Tsitsanoudi-Mallidis, Dean of the School of Education at the University of Ioannina, while Chrysoula Kourkounti, Executive Director of the Maliotis Cultural Center, oversees organizational details on-site in Boston.
