The Greek Steet Fair Burwood is back for 2024, as one of the bigger events in Sydney’s cultural calendar.

The event, presented by the Greek Orthodox Parish and Community of Burwood and District and Burwood Council, with support from Multicultural NSW is set to take over the Inner West suburb this coming Sunday (10 November) from 11am-5pm.

The celebration will take place on Railway Parade (just outside the Church of St Nectarios) and Burleigh Street, and will feature various Greek dancing performances, live Greek music, food trucks, market stalls, as well as a new ‘Baraki on Bureigh’ pop up bar.

The fair will also include a number of activities for children, amusement rides, competitions, prizes to be won and the chance to meet Mitsos the Greek Street Fair Donkey and Plato the Greek Dancing Cat.

It is anticipated to be well-attended by Greeks and non-Greeks alike, with numerous official guests also expected to attend.

The Greek Street Fair Burwood is notably always held on the Sunday immediately after the Feast Day of Saint Nectarios, which is commemorated throughout the world each year on 9 November.

Christina Efthymiades AM, the voluntary event director for the event, shared her excitement heading into the 11th edition of the fair, which has cultivated a great reputation over the years since its debut in 2012.

“The entire St Nectarios Burwood community is so proud that our annual Panigiri to celebrate our Feast Day has continued to grow and has become such a popular event on the Sydney calendar,” Efthymiades told Neos Kosmos.

She highlighted her pleasure that it has turned into a mainstream activity in which people of all cultures, faiths and backgrounds come together to celebrate the spirit of Hellenism, stating that “we look forward to welcoming everyone this Sunday”.

This year’s Greet Street Fair Burwood is also part of the Centenary Celebrations of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia, as well as part of Burwood Council’s 150th anniversary milestone.
