Getting a foot in the door of the journalism industry is no easy feat. For emerging journalists, the journey can feel like an overwhelming labyrinth filled with internships, resumes, and networking events.

To help emerging journalists navigate this landscape, the Melbourne Press Club (MPC) will present ‘Getting Your Foot on the Journalism Ladder‘ Tuesday, 6:30pm at the La Trobe University Post Graduate Centre, in Melbourne’s CBD. The forum will offer guidance and inspiration from industry professionals.

The event is part of the MPC’s ‘Edit’ program, this event aims to shed light on the skills and experiences that truly matter for early-career journalists. Panellists what is talk about tips to getting a job in journalism, such as the value of internships. They’ll also share personal stories about their first jobs, offering insight into the diverse paths one can take in journalism.

The event is valuable for students, emerging journalists, multicultural journalists, or anyone considering a career switch.

The panel includes a range of accomplished journalists across diverse media. I will have Kaitlyn Offer, the Chief of Staff at AAP’s Melbourne Bureau, our own, Fotis Kapetopoulos from Neos Kosmos, Estelle Griepink reporter with the Seven Network, Ilaria Walker, Asia Pacific Editor at 360info and Laura Placella, reporter for the Herald Sun. The discussion will be moderated reporter and producer for ABC Radio, and MPC’s vice president, Matilda Marozzi.

These industry experts will discuss the challenges they faced early in their careers and offer practical tips on carving out a niche in journalism. In addition to the panel discussion, attendees will have a chance for one-on-one conversations with the speakers, providing a valuable opportunity to ask specific questions and receive personalised advice.
