The Victorian Multicultural Commission (VMC) recently hosted its end-of-year celebration in Springvale, bringing together community and faith leaders, policymakers and stakeholders to reflect on a year of achievements and challenges.

The event celebrated Victoria’s rich cultural diversity while reaffirming the commitment to fostering an inclusive, harmonious society.

VMC Chairperson Vivienne Nguyen expressed gratitude to the individuals and groups who have contributed to strengthening the state’s multicultural fabric.

“I want to take a moment to pay tribute to all of you—community leaders, faith leaders, members of the Regional Advisory Council, the Multi-Faith Advisory Group, and the Youth Network,” Nguyen said.

She emphasised that the VMC’s success hinges on the collaborative partnerships it nurtures across the state.

“We are the conduit between diverse communities and the Victorian Government, and we cannot do this without your ongoing support and collaboration.”

Nick Staikos, Parliamentary Secretary to the Premier and Multicultural Affairs, highlighted the VMC’s pivotal role in initiatives aimed at improving access to services for multicultural communities and advising the government on public sentiment.

“Throughout the year, the VMC has been instrumental in fostering unity and understanding through events such as the Multicultural Gala Dinner and the Multicultural Film Festival,” Staikos said.

He also announced the forthcoming release of new anti-racism strategies by the Victorian Government.

“Our diversity is the envy of the world, but we must protect it. The Victorian Government will do everything necessary to guard our inclusive society against prejudice and discrimination,” he said.
