Last weekend boxer Andreas Katzourakis won the OTX junior middleweight tournament and became the new World Boxing Association (WBA) Continental Americas champion.

The Greek defeated American Brandon Adams by split decision with a score of 97-93, 93-97 and 96-94.

It was tough and close fight in Atlanta, which Katzourakis opened with smothering pace, pressing forward to fight in close quarters.

In the first round the 27-year-old sustained a cut over his right eye, and he controlled the fight throughout, being much more aggressive and having his opponent’s back on the ropes.

With this win he has not only claimed the OTX x WBC Tournament title and the WBA Continental Americas Championship, he has also earned a promotional contract with OTX.

“This win is for Greece,” Katzourakis said after the fight, while draped in the Greek flag.

“I’m fighting for my country, my heritage, and to achieve my dream of becoming Greece’s first male World Champion in the modern era.”

Katzourakis is from Athens and is now based in Houston, Texas, and has made his entire career thus far in the US.

He is undefeated after 15 fights, 10 of which he has won by way of knockout.
