St John’s College look to make educational history after launching a world-first hybrid learning platform.
The initiative, which began on October 18, integrates the theories of paragogy (peer-to-peer learning), rhizomatic learning (non-linear learning paths), as well as personalised AI tutors.
It was introduced to Year 9 and selected students in Years 7 and 8, redefining how students engage with learning by removing traditional constraints of time and place.
The platform features AI-powered personalised tutors, acting as Virtual More Knowledgeable Others (MKOs), providing on-demand guidance across subjects.
These AI mentors foster critical thinking, helping students master concepts and explore topics beyond the classroom.
“Our AI tutors empower students to learn at their own pace while encouraging independent problem-solving,” said Dr Nikolaos Bogiannidis, the program’s architect.
Backed by the Beniko Foundation, the project combines cutting-edge AI with human expertise, enabling teachers to focus on mentorship and personalised support.
“This isn’t just about technology,” said College Principal Mr Ponsford.
“It’s about reimagining education to prepare students for an ever-evolving future.”
Following the pilot’s success, St John’s plans to expand the platform across its curriculum, hoping to set a new standard for dynamic, inclusive, and technology-driven education.
