AHEPA Greek School celebrated the year with a Christmas party at Ivanhoe Girls Grammar on Monday.

The school auditorium saw spectators, parents, grandparents, friends of the families and friends of AHEPA watch on as students gave a performance.

The celebration was opened by Tasia Manou from the school committee who spoke about the work being done at the school while thanking the parents.

Stella Lambrou, the school principal, referred to this year’s achievements of the school and emphasised the important role that all Greek schools play in preserving Greek language and culture.

This year’s performance line-up featured a variety of themes chosen by the students and included, plays and songs about Ai Basilis by the Preps and Grade 2, play on the Four Seasons (Grade 1), the Gods of Olympus by Grades 3 & 4, the Olympic Games by Grades 5 & 6 and the Dances of the Caryatides by the secondary students.

There was said to be “endless applause” for the children and dance teacher Sotiris Sotiriou.

Dances included:

Pre-primary: Omal – Pontos

First grade: Sirtos in three 2) Menousis – Epirus

Second grade: Karakianitikos from Kerkyra

Third grade: Samiotikos – Dodecanese

Fourth grade: Podaraki and Zervos from Thace

E’ grade: Kalamatianos – Tsamikos – Peloponnese

High School: Ta xyla and Antikristos from Mytilini

The celebration ended with Christmas songs and the national anthems.

“Everyone was delighted, expressing their admiration for the presentation of the celebration and gave warm congratulations to the teaching staff and assistants who surround the students and our school with so much love and care,” read an AHEPA Greek School media release.

“We extend a big “Thank you” to everyone who contributed to the success of this unique celebration at the “AHEPA GREEK SCHOOL”.”

They then wished the students and families a merry Christmas and happy holidays.
