This Sunday the Pan-Macedonian Association Melbourne & Victoria and Heidelberg United Football Club are holding the Dimitria 2024 Festival.
The event is the closing festival of their program honouring the Thessaloniki patron saint.
There will be live music with a DJ and two bands, including Demotika, as well as a number of dancing groups performing traditional Pontian and Florina dances. O Periklis dancing group will also be there and the PanMac dance group.
An Indigenous group will perform to help open the festival.
Apart from that, there’s going to be an open day for Heidelberg United, where people can meet the Heidelberg players and coach.
There will also be food stalls and activities for kids like face painting and rides.
The association is striving to engage a broader audience and this festival is part of that.
Peter Stefanidis, the Pan-Macedonian President said this is a new initiative.
“The program has been brought along by the new committee of Pan-Mac. Many of us are very new to PanMac and our focus is to revitalise interest in the organisation and to put out new programs that people of our generation and younger generations can actually relate to,” he told Neos Kosmos.
The relationship with Heidelberg United is an example of that with their reach to not just young Greeks but others too.
