Greece’s Euro 2004 legends thrilled Sydneysiders with a live demonstration of the quality they possess even in retirement, delighting spectators with an exhibition match of pure celebration twenty years on from their tournament triumph.
The three icons, Giorgos Karagounis, Angelos Charisteas and Theodoros Zagorakis, all turned back the clock on Sunday afternoon at Leichhardt’s Lambert Park as they shared the field with many ex-Australian footballers for a game played in the best of spirits.
The match took place immediately after a training clinic wherein the legends got a firsthand look at Sydney’s young footballers, with the entire day organised by Football Brilliance Academy.
The game proved to be a true goal fest with all three visiting stars managing to get on the scoresheet, dazzling the attendees and, in particular, the young kids who stormed the field to celebrate with the players.
The whole crowd made sure to stay back following the match and take to the field as they sought opportunities to see the players up close.
