A 13-year-old Greek-Australian journalist and cartoonist, Madison Eve, has been recognised nationally for her dedication to raising awareness about domestic violence. The Year 8 student, whose family hails from Crete, claimed top honours in News Corp Australia’s Kids News Junior Journalist Newsroom competition for the second consecutive year.
Madison was named Junior Journalist of the Year and News Reporter of the Year (secondary category) after producing a series of compelling articles and illustrations addressing domestic violence, the impact of excessive screen time, and the cost-of-living crisis.
“It is an absolute honour and privilege to participate in this national competition and shine a light on important issues,” Madison said.
“I firmly believe young people should have a voice on topical issues and take a stand against all forms of violence, including coercion, control, and intimidation.”
Madison’s siblings, Alexandra (11) and George (9), were also commended for their contributions to the competition, which included a video story on robotics and sport as well as print news pieces.

Madison credits the Covid-19 lockdowns for fostering her passion for writing and art. She draws inspiration from renowned cartoonists Mark Knight and the late Michael Leunig.
“Their humour, wit, and artistic talent are a true inspiration and testament to the power of creative expression,” she said.
News Corp Australia’s Community Ambassador, Penny Fowler, praised Madison for her maturity and talent.
“Madison has remarkably won the competition two years in a row, showcasing her depth and creativity. Her focus on domestic violence this year and bullying last year highlights her commitment to addressing critical social issues,” Fowler said.
