Sydney restaurant ‘Kazzi Beach Greek’ became the target of theft this past Australia Day long weekend with the culprit stealing the staffs’ tip jar.
The incident occurred last Monday night and was captured on CCTV, with the footage showing a man waiting for a waitress to walk out of sight as he then napped the tip jar.
Peter Papas, the owner of the Balmoral restaurant, explained the individual had come at roughly 7.30pm and asked about the price of chips before leaving and then returning minutes later to commit the theft.
“It was the Australia Day long weekend and our staff worked so hard over three days, no doubt looking forward to sharing their tips at the close of business,” Papas told Mosman Collective.
“This lowlife has waltzed in and scoped out the tip jar, then waited to strike in the split second the cashier’s back was turned.”
The owner replaced the money lost to recognise the staff for their efforts,
“Many of the kids who work with us are local and they were upset to think something like this happened right under their noses,” Papas said.
If you recognise the man in the footage, you can report him by phoning Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
