A new literary initiative is bringing Australian literature to Greek audiences through a series of translations, thanks to the efforts of Greek-Australian academics and writers.

Directed by Greek-Australian Yannis Dramitinos, the ‘Etudes Australes’ series, launched by Thessaloniki-based publisher Petites-Maisons, aims to present the Australian experience through historical essays, novels, and even graphic works.

The first books in the series include Monster & Colossus, featuring letters between Greek writer Costas Taktsis and Australian artist Carl Plate, with an introduction by renowned scholar Professor Vrasidas Karalis. This was followed in January by The Glebe Point Road Blues, authored by Professor Karalis himself.

Dramitinos and Karalis recently visited Greece to mark the launch, meeting with Australian Ambassador Alison Duncan.

Their project highlights the growing appreciation of Australian literature among Greek readers, reflecting the deep cultural exchange between the two nations.
