The Greek Film Society Sydney’s mission to showcase quality Hellenic pictures continues in 2025, having announced a wide program of screenings for the first half of the year.

The GFFS is all set for its monthly spotlight on Greek cinema at the Atlas Community and Cultural Centre in Marrickville, kicking it off last month on 27 February with a showing of Asimina Proedrou’s ‘Behind the Haystacks’.

The coming months will see the group explore other films from Greece with screenings of Dimitris Bavellas’ ‘Dourgouti Town (27 March), Sofia Exarchou’s ‘Animal’ (24 April) and Manos Arvanitakis’ ‘The Charcoal Makers of Ikaria’ (29 May).

The Society will also showcase a series of award-winning short films on 26 June, including ‘The Chaos She Left Behind’, ‘Nothing Holier Than a Dolphin’, ‘Wings’, ‘Light of Light’, and ‘Airhostess’.

The group expressed great excitement for their 2025 program, which they say will delight, surprise, and perhaps stir a few existential debates among audiences.

The Society also highlighted that, where possible, they will also incorporate the directors into their events with Q&A sessions facilitated via digital conferencing, allowing attendees to get a deeper insight into the films.
