Another member of the first generation of Greek migrants in Australia has passed away.

Giorgos Karantonis, well-known within Melbourne’s Greek community, was a distinguished figure for decades due to his involvement in community affairs.

A devoted supporter of South Melbourne Hellas, he rarely missed a match, and he was also a passionate Olympiacos fan. His love for sports extended to radio, where he hosted sports programs for many years.

Originally from Lesvos, he was immensely proud of his homeland and actively contributed to the Pallesvian Brotherhood of Melbourne in various capacities.

Following his passing, dozens of condolence messages and tributes have been shared online, reflecting the deep respect and recognition he had within the Greek-Australian community.
