The Greek Welfare Centre is preparing to once more organise food hampers for Melbourne families in need this Easter, and they are seeking the help of the wider community for donations to support the cause.

The joint effort between the Greek Orthodox parishes and the Greek Welfare Centre Victoria will see Greek Australian households in financial need provided with Easter Hampers, as distributed through their volunteer network.

The hampers consist of non-perishable food items, including but not limited to: oil, pasta, rice, coffee, tea, sugar, biscuits, canned food (including vegetables, meats, hams etc), sauces, flour, spices, snacks etc.

The Greek Welfare Centre has commenced accepting donations for the appeal, with drop-offs accepted between 9am-5pm at the Centre’s head office at the Holy Monastery of ‘Axion Estin’ (7 Hartington Street Northcote) until 16 April.

They are also accepting donations at the Greek Orthodox Churches until 13 April.

The Greek Welfare Service noted that anyone interested in donating items make sure they check the use-by dates and that there are no ruptures to the packaging before purchasing or dropping them off.

Further information on the initiative can be found by contacting Yiannis Pilalidis at the Greek Welfare Centre on (03) 9486 6588.
