Two new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed in Victoria, both linked to current outbreaks and in quarantine throughout their infectious period.

There are now 27 active cases in the state.

The news came this morning as Victoria’s tourism sector released figures showing that it would take the state at least five years to recoup the losses suffered by COVID-1i.

Victoria Tourism Industry Chief Felicia Mariani said the sector would need assistance for years to come as the state hit a 20-year low in tourism spending, plunging 69 per cent to $9.8 billion in the year to March.

“It will be the better part of five years to get back to pre-COVID,” Ms Mariani said.

“We will have lost five years of growth, five years of acceleration.”

Domestic overnight spending was down by 83 per cent, and regional areas fared better but were still hit with a 35 per cent drop.

Queensland recorded nine local infections with a lockdown in Greater Brisbane in effect. Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Ipswich and nine other areas were due to lift the lockdown on Tuesday, however this is likely to be extended.

The outbreak in Queensland is now at 18 cases, but likely to get worse.
