Neos Kosmos suggests: Send-A-Scent from Greece

Capture your travel memories in a unique way that will tap into the senses

When travelling most people opt for a snap to capture their treasured memories, or collect and send postcards to their loved ones. But what if you could capture the scent of your favourite beach or that delicious herb that fills the kitchens of homes and restaurants? Well it’s no longer a far fetched idea, with Feel Greece’s Send-A-Scent range.

A unique and aromatic take on the traditional postcard that gives memory a new dimension, has been conceptualised by the young Greece-based innovator Thanasis Bizios.

“Scientists say that the sense of smell is the only one of the five senses that is wired to the right brain, which is the side of the brain that is responsible for recognising faces, emotions, images and intuition. Thus using scent, we are able to evoke emotions and memories,” Feel Greece’s spokesperson told Neos Kosmos.

“Visitors now have the unique opportunity to ‘capture’ the scents and aromas of the Greek land and to take them wherever they wish.”

Resembling a postcard, the first product by Send-A-Scent allows you to keep a hold of the familiar gastronomic scents of the Greek kitchen, ranging from spearmint, oregano, sage and thyme. While the second product Send-A-Breeze, is made up of photos of Greece along with the aroma of the seaside.

And there are two more exciting ideas in the works.

“We are currently preparing Send-An-Aroma, with scents to aromatise a room and your car, and Send-A-Herb that will include herbs that are used as beverages, for example wild Greek mountain tea and chamomile.”

While the Feel Greece team admit that it continues to be a difficult time for entrepreneurs given the economic climate in Greece, they recognise that tourism is one sector that is going from strength to strength.

By choosing to contribute to Greece’s already thriving tourism industry, they have managed to see success within their first year of operation and say the general sentiment by business owners is one of support.

“It can be very challenging, especially not knowing how things will evolve in the country, but we are confident that the Greek spirit will survive.

“People trust the concept and have included it in their shops, as a gift in hotels and restaurants, or as a give-away gift in exhibitions abroad,” with tourists excited to take a piece of Greece with them back home, and share it with their friends and family wherever that they may be.

Currently the team are working to develop a customised software that will allow customers to choose their postcard of choice, with their own photographs and personalised message to be delivered direct to their chosen destination, as a special surprise for the recipient.

In the meantime, Send-A-Scent and Send-A-Breeze are available through various stockists, e-shops, and the Feel Greece website (www.feelgreece.gr).
