Church Street’s legendary Richmond Oysters has been running since 1959, when brothers Tony and Nick Anassis established a single-fronted retail outlet next to the train line.

From shucking oysters to delivering fresh fish, the family business has been committed to delivering a superior standard of quality product to their diverse Melbourne clientele spanning wholesale, restaurant, and retail.

Their one-on-one approach and door-to-door promotion set them apart and helped them grow into one of Victoria’s most respected seafood establishments.
In 2008, the second generation of Anassis brothers, Theo and Chris, decided to renovate half of the Richmond production site into a restaurant which became an extension of the shopfront.

With the help of Alex Scoutas and Evan Triantafyllou the restaurant became renowned for its simple, clean flavours and for their pristine and variable seafood dishes with produce coming straight out of the display tank.

The Richmond Oysters restaurant philosophy is all about what the customer wants to eat, building their service on a more personalised approach, based on seasonality and availability.

Their two-tier seafood platter featuring mussels, calamari, oysters, prawns, scallops, fish fillets, soft shell crab – to name a few – is still considered the best and biggest of its kind in Melbourne, nine years after.

Today, Richmond Oysters retains its iconic heritage, offering a world-class restaurant dining experience from their new upmarket restaurant located in the heart of Oakleigh.

The premium quality diner with its brick walls, wooden floors, halo lights, and impressive bar taps into even the most selective foodie’s expectations whilst celebrating the family’s Greek heritage.

A highly-trained chef ensures the brand’s fresh Australian seafood flavours remain unspoiled in a seasonal yet consistent menu with the help of a loyal staff that always treats customers with an honest smile.

“We take pride in having a great team in the kitchen that pours their heart into the food and an amazing team on the floor that really cares about the quality of service,” Caleb Griffiths, Richmond Oysters’ business manager tells Neos Kosmos.

“Restaurants are a relationship transaction not just a food transaction; that’s our ethos.”
