With an ageing population comes greater demand for aged care, and, with people diagnosed with dementia predicted to rise by 30 per cent in the next seven years, that also goes for specialised care.
A debilitating and terminal condition, dementia robs people of their memory and changes their behaviour significantly.
In a bid to step up to the challenge, Froditha Care will be hosting a radiothon on 3XY this month to raise much needed funds for the reconstruction of their memory support units in Clayton South and St Albans that cater to the elderly with severe dementia.
“Unfortunately it is becoming so prevalent in the ageing community that demand for specialised dementia care is far exceeding supply,” said Fronditha Care’s CEO George Lekakis AO.
Designed in collaboration with Alzheimer’s Australia, Fronditha Care’s new memory support units will be unique. Built to foster a calm environment, they will be fitted with visual memory cues to help residents get around the facility with 50 beds in Clayton and 30 in St Albans.
The radiothon will be hosted on 3XY Radio Hellas, with every donation read live during the broadcast.
Fronditha Care has been providing aged care services for people of Greek and multicultural heritage for more than 40 years in Victoria and NSW.
