Darling Harbour was dressed in blue and white on the weekend thanks to the 37th Greek Festival of Sydney.
The close-knit community celebration drew more than 100,000 people to the festivities that rivalled the glitz and merriment of the Mardi Gras parade taking place on the same weekend.
The flavours of Greece could be found everywhere from the aromas of spanakopita and sizzles of souvlaki to the taste of ouzo and tsipouro that brought the spirit of Bacchus to Australia’s largest city.
And after the dizzying dance, a variety of music, story-telling and food, Greek singer Eleonora Zouganeli took the stage of Tumbalong Park to present her own brand of traditional folk music and modern pop.

A highlight of the festival included a State Government announcement that $400,000 would be given to ensure the Greek Festival of Sydney’s survival over the coming years.
Event Chair Nia Karteris told Neos Kosmos that this “shows how important the cultural event is to NSW”.
The free event drew a diverse crowd of many nationalities that came to enjoy the show. The weekend was just one of the many offerings of the 37th Greek Festival of Sydney that runs through to 24 May.
