Archbishop Makarios of Australia cut short his trip to Melbourne to return to Sydney, with speculation mounting regarding the reasons for his sudden departure.
The Archdiocese of Australia released a statement to address rumours. The statement says he cut short his visit due to “illness felt during the first day following his arrival in Melbourne due to accumulated fatigue”.
On Tuesday, 1 December, Archbishop Makarios returned to his duties at the Holy Archdiocese and a new date for his cancelled trip to Victoria will soon be announced.
“Whatever other hypothesis regarding the health situation of the Archbishop, in relation to coronavirus, is groundless,” states the release.
