On Friday, NSW confirmed 1,284 COVID-19 cases and 12 new deaths of two people in their 20s with underlying conditions, three in their 50s, one in their 60s, two in their 70s, three in their 80s and one in their 90s. Seven of the twelve people were not vaccinated, two had received one dose and three were fully vaccinated.
The state also announced a home quarantine trial for returned travellers.
NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian said on Friday that “there are opportunities for us to consider easing restrictions moving forward” however people should stay the course.

The new home quarantine trial will run for four weeks with people selected by NSW Health and could include NSW residents, non-Australian residents and Qantas air crew. The trial will run for four weeks and only include people who have received two doses of the TGA-approved vaccine.
Should the trial be successful, a wider rollout of home quarantine would follow but a timeline has yet to be established. Ms Berejiklian said it would help reunited families before Christmas.
“We envisage things moving rapidly,” she said. “Certain assumptions are being made what the results will be. We will work very quickly to scale it up. We have shown our capacity to make a trial become reality very soon.”
