One of Sydney’s favourite chefs and a master of Greek cuisine, David Tsirekas, announced that he is giving up the kitchen in a heartfelt post on Instagram.
Tsirekas, who reopened his restaurant Perama 2.0 only four months ago after a tumultuous two years during the pandemic, has decided to hang up his apron for good.
Having suffered a stroke in 2019, that severely impacted his health, the much-loved chef will prioritise his health, passing the baton to Elvis Sabapathy, who will continue to operate the popular Petersham establishment.
“It is with incredible heartbreak that I have decided to hang up my apron – for now,” Tsirekas wrote, explaining that he wishes to focus on his health -both physical and mental- and his family.
“I have stepped down from all my responsibilities at Perama 2.0 and won’t be returning back to any kitchen in the foreseeable future.
“I thank Elvis for one last chance to put smiles on your faces and bellies at Perama 2.0 and I wish Elvis, Elaine and the team at Perama 2.0 and wish you all the best for the future,” he added.

Explaining that this will be his last ever post on this Instagram account, he noted that it is with sadness that he puts behind the legacy of the last 52 years.
Tsirekas promised to return one day with a new renewed sharing of new ventures, thanking his loyal customers, co-workers, family and friends for their ongoing support and endless love.
