The team behind Carlton restaurant Epocha are ready to open a Cretan restaurant in Camberwell in late July.

“We were hoping to open on the 23 August, for Eleftherios Venizelos’ birthday to give it some history … but we couldn’t wait that long,” says Angie Giannakodakis, one of the partners of this venture, along with Guy Holder, restaurant manager Disa Dimitrakakis, and chef Yiannis Katsirokostas from Greece.
This has been a long-time dream of Giannakodakis’, who is set to bring the traditional foods of Crete to Camberwell and plate them up in a stylish fine dining manner.

The restaurant will be called Elyros, named after Dimitrakakis’ village in Chania, Crete. The inspiration is the south-west of Crete, with regional cuisine set in a beautiful dining room with neo-classical finishes. Next door will house a wine bar so diners can have a gorgeous robust Greek wine, with little mezedes.

“Expect to see kaltsounia on the menu, snails, bourbourites, oumaties – intestines with offal, rice and herbs, and all types of greens,” Giannakodakis says.
Elyros, 871 Burke Rd, Camberwell, is set to open late July.
