At Lexi School of Modern Greek, the mission is to preserve and celebrate the Greek language and culture, fostering a deep connection between students and their heritage. With a team of dedicated and passionate educators, aims to inspire students of all ages through modern teaching methodologies and an interactive, thematic approach that makes learning Greek both enjoyable and fulfilling.

“Our goal is to instill a love for the Greek language and culture while helping students feel confident and accomplished in their learning journey,” say principals Evanthia Simou-Yiannoulaki and Mary Krimpogianni-Souvlis.

“We strive to create a positive and engaging environment where every student feels connected to and proud of their heritage.”

One of the unique aspects of Lexi is its pioneering Zouzounia Program, established in 2007, which introduces Greek language learning to children aged 1–4 years. Located in Moonee Ponds, Richmond, Preston, and Oakleigh, the program offers toddlers and preschoolers the opportunity to explore the Greek language through storytelling, crafts, games, songs, and dance. Parents or grandparents participate alongside the children, fostering a sense of community and creating lasting friendships.

“We were inspired by our own children to create a program that would make Greek language learning accessible, fun, and meaningful for young families,” the principals explain.

“Zouzounia is not just about language; it’s about building strong foundations for lifelong learning and cultural pride.”

The journey doesn’t end with Zouzounia. Preschoolers transition smoothly into kindergarten and foundation classes, continuing their Greek language education through primary and secondary school. Over the years, the school community has flourished, strengthened by open communication and collaboration between the principals, teachers, and parents.

“Seeing our students grow, stay connected, and proudly embrace their background is the greatest reward for us as educators,” say the principals. “We’re excited about the year ahead, starting with cultural activities that bring the language and traditions to life for our students.”

Classes for 2025 commence on February 3, with interactive cultural activities planned for Term 1.
