It’s carnival (apokries) time and the AHEPA chapter Defkalion celebrated the occasion with a fundraiser on Saturday, February 16.
Apart from having a good time, $5,000 was raised to support people and organisations in the Gold Coast community.
The organisation has donated a lot of money for many good causes in the past. These include funding for educational action purposes and support to Greek schools, dancing troupes as well as local families in need of assistance. It is always on the lookout to see which groups it can support.
Last year, AHEPA Brisbane also donated $5000 towards medical equipment for a cancer hospice that will be set up in Katerini Greece and $2000 for the group’s participation in the UN Commission’s forum on the status of women in March.
