If you are struggling to get your hands on some masks during the pandemic, you can make your own.

The Australian Government says “most people will not benefit from wearing a surgical mask” however the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) of America had recently updated its advice on the matter suggesting individuals use cloth face covering in pubic settings where it may be difficult to maintain social distancing measures.

Tight woven fabrics with a thick weave are best to use as they stop a greater portion of viral particles coming through.

One video tutorial by YouTube channel Japanese Creations shows a non-sew versions using a handkerchief and a couple of hair ties.

They do note that, “this mask is not meant to replace surgical face masks, but when you must go out, something to cover yourself is better than nothing, and at the very least, it will remind you to not touch your face.”

American YouTuber Erica Arndt also explains how to make a mask for those who are nifty with a sewing machine.
