The A-League will see debutantes Western United join Melbourne City, Sydney FC and Perth Glory in the semi-finals after their 1-0 win over Brisbane Roar.

Roar were determined to come out on top after their four of six wins since the league restarted.

Just 20 minutes into the game 37 year-old Alessandro Diamanti curled a pinpoint free-kick that Brisbane keeper Jamie Young was not able to deny.

The goal shook Roar who may have started the game dominating in open exchanges but missed opportunities as ex-United striker Scott McDonald fired across goal and Matthew Ridenton volleyed wide.

Roar were no match for Mark Rudan’s front, who knocked back their oppositions attacks.

The closest Brisbane came to equalising the score was when Brisbane midfielder Brad Inman attempt a shot that instead hit the post.

Both teams delivered a fiery performance, with tackles flying left, right and centre leaving players from both teams battered and bruised.

Western United will have to keep an eye out on defenders Andrew Durante and Josh Risdon along with midfielder Max Burgess before heading into Wednesday’s semi-final match after they all copped some agonising knocks

Melbourne City and Western United will be opening the semi final matches on Wednesday night at Bankwest Stadium at 5:00pm followed by Perth Glory and Sydney FC at 8:10pm.
