Young bartenders in Greece are experimenting with local produce such as tsikoudia, raki, mastiha and other local herbs, creating a cocktail revolution in the country.
This has not gone unnoticed by Time Out magazine that voted the Aegean Negroni the top cocktail of the world in a list of the world’s best 36 mixed drinks.
Created at the Clumsies, a bar in a run-down neoclassical building that was brought to life by Nikos Bakoulis and Vasilis Kyritsis during the debt crisis.
The Aegean Negroni is the bar’s signature drink thanks to its use of the finest products and blue colour that conjures the Aegean sea. Aegean Negroni includes the bar’s own spiced drink, white vermouth, Martini bitters, Martini Ambrato and fennel seeds and flagrant dittany, a Cretan herb.
The cocktail has a “distinctive, unmistakeably Mediterranean savour,” states Time Out.
