An Epirotes dance team, Sillogos Epirus, Greece found a really good way to lift Greek spirits experiencing the second lockdown of the year by drawing on the eternal free spirit of Greek literature, Alexis Zorba, to inspire the Sirtaki Zorba’s Quarantine Dance on YouTube.

With bouzouki player Faidon Mitsiou performing and dance teacher Stefanos Fasias leading the dance, the You tube track breaks into separate screens showing dancers in isolation picking up the music to eventually include over 20 participants.

A spokesman for Sillogos Epirus said the YouTube dance event, that was edited by Tolis Liamiras, was “quarantine choreography” that was inspired by the character in Zorba the Greek by Nikos Kazanzakis and the music of Mikis Theodorakis.

“Our goal is to offer a note of optimism and to remain united even in this way. We thank all the dancers, who took the time (wherever they were) to participate in the result,” said the Sillogos Epirus on its You Tube site.
