Australia is set to have a Labor government lead by Anthony Albanese as Australia’s 31st Prime Minister – possibly a minority government. A new third force has emerged, the teals.

The Liberals have lost the seats of Chisholm, in Melbourne, and Reid, in Victoria. Dave Sharma has lost Wentworth, Trent Zimmerman conceded in North Sydney. Josh Frydenberg said that while it was “mathematically possible” to win Kooyong, it was “very difficult.”

It is a victory for the teal independents and the Greens as much as it is for Labor.

“The Liberal party has been obliterated and it’s likely to be worse than even the most pessimistic Coalition analysts predicted,” said Professor James Arvanitakis to Neos Kosmos

It seems that the Liberal’s stubborn insistence on reactionary policies has lost them valuable inner-city seats in Sydney and Melbourne.

Women, young people, and genuine liberals have turned their back on the Liberals.

“The party that was once considered a ‘broad church’ had been captured by a conservative and reactionary element. The result was poor policy outcomes that did not meet the needs of Australia. They must decide their direction: recapture the middle ground or end up a fringe party.”

As Labor begin to pop corks, they must be aware that the swing was away from both parties.”

“It should be a warning and the ALP should not get too comfortable,” said James Arvanitakis.
