Singer and The Voice Australia coach, Jessica Mauboy exchanged vows with her longtime beau, Themeli Magripili, in a small church ceremony in Darwin last Saturday. The ceremony was followed by a lavish reception, with family and friends, at the Mindil Beach Casino Resort.

Australia’s sweetheart, Mauboy first met ‘Them’, her Greek Australian partner, when she was 18 years old, on a dance floor in Darwin, in 2006. The two began a long-distance relationship three years later, and have made it work, despite the singer’s busy schedule.

Themeli “Magoo” Magripilis, is a soccer player and council worker of Greek descent, who played for the Darwin soccer league’s club Hellenic Athletic.

The Australian First Nations singer, told The Who that it was on a holiday in the Greek islands, in 2016, that she realised that Themeli was ‘The One’.

And it was on the island of Kalymnos, his ancestral home, where his extended family live, that Them proposed to her three years later. An announcement she had then shared on her Instagram with a picture of her Greek fiancé. “The love of my life proposed to me in his family’s home town of Kalymnos, Greece on the beach at sunset. We are so happy I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with my best friend. Thank you for all the love BIG LOVE JM & Themeli.”

They both share strong family values. The Greek Australian from Darwin only proposed to her after asking Jessica’s father’s permission.

Though the loving couple have been waiting for this day, ever since, their wedding had to be postponed when the pandemic hit.
According to sources close to the couple who spoke to the Northern Territory Times “there was not a dry eye in the crowd” of 300 guests who attended the wedding and reception on Saturday.
