Russell Crowe, who stars in the Hollywood film Thor: Love and Thunder as Zeus, decided to honour one of his oldest mates as an inspiration behind his latest role.

The Oscar winning actor, looked back to his days at Sydney Boys High where he first met his friend, Greek Australian pilot Hercules Demirgelis.

Crowe, did not hesitate to take to Twitter to share his appreciation and admiration for his “mate” after Qantas announced he was taking command of its 787 Boeing.

“Sydney Boys High mate Hercules attains command of a 787 Boeing. Worked towards this goal his entire adult life. What a moment. People ask me about my inspiration for Zeus & why it was important to me that he was proudly Greek. To honour my Greek friends & make them laugh, that’s why,” Crowe tweeted.

Demirgelis had spent 20,000 hours of his adult working life flying 747’s for Qantas until they were recently retired from operation.

This is not the first time Russell Crowe has made an appreciation tweet for Hercules, he had tweeted about his friend’s capabilities of flying 747 jumbos two years ago.
