For over 60 years now, the Taxiarches Greek School operating under Mentone’s Greek Orthodox Community has been supporting young learners in their journey towards Greek language acquisition.

Offering a comprehensive language and culture curriculum from Pre-Prep to VCE, the school is verified by the Ministry of Education and VCAA.

Greek is taught as a second language across all classes, while traditional Greek dancing and singing is taught to all students as part of the School curriculum.

“Our school’s primary aim is to disseminate Greek language, culture and tradition, whilst also supporting children in developing feelings of pride about their Greek Australian heritage and identity,” says the school Principal Elena Aggelaki.

The team of educators is comprised of qualified teachers with knowledge of both the Greek and Australian context and communication links with the parent community are ongoing thanks to an online platform deployed in many day schools, Compass.

“We are particularly proud of our VCE students’ success over the past 28 years with their results ranked as some of the best in the state in Modern Greek. A total 49 per cent of our students excelled in the subject this year,” says Ms Aggelaki.

Classes are held every Friday 5pm – 8.45pm at the premises of Mentone Girls’ Grammar School, 11 Mentone Parade, Mentone.
