It’s ben said that to change on the outside, the must first change on the inside.

“If you put your mind to it, anything is possible.”

Through these words, Aki Ionnas, became the living example that the power of mind is what makes the impossible, possible.

The general manager of Oakleigh Cannons Football Club, and Business Development Manager for McClures Office Supplies, spoke to Neos Kosmos about his weight loss journey, sharing some insight on how he managed to lose over 45 kilos.

Being diabetic as well as feeling “constantly tired and lethargic” Aki realised that “things were getting out of hand,” and finally decided “to do something about it.”

In August 2020, he not only opted for a change of lifestyle but truly committed to a decision that he felt was necessary.

“I was having an ‘Optislim’ shake every morning and every lunchtime. I combined it with walking and over time the weight started coming off.”

Aki also says that being conscious of the quantity of food consumed was the third step to his successful weight loss process.

“It’s not only what you eat, but also the amount you eat,” he explains.

The Greek Australian manager of Oakleigh Cannons, lost the first 60 per cent of his weight in the first six to nine months, and together with his dietician, set a goal that he truly conquered.

“Now I’m full of energy,” he admits enthusiastically.

As for how he now maintains his weight: “I just go for walks and watch how much I eat. If I can do 10,000 steps a day, I’m happy,” he shares.

According to Mr Ionnas, another crucial component that defines those life changing decisions is psychology.

“It’s about the power of mind, and prioritising what’s important in life,” he says.

Aki also highlights the importance of simplicity and consistency to those going through their own weight loss journey.

“Keep it as simple as you can. There’s no need to complicate things. Anyone can dedicate 45 minutes to an hour a day for walking. You need to stick to it,” he makes clear.

“As long as you put your mind to it, it’s achievable.”
