Theo Zographos, councillor for the City of Monash, was endorsed today, Thursday, December 21, as the Liberal candidate for the Victorian seat of Chisholm in the upcoming Federal election.
Chisholm covers Mount Waverley, Burwood and Box Hill and is an ultra-marginal electorate that the ALP won in the last federal elections in 2022 against first-term Liberal Gladys Liu.
Zographos told Neos Kosmos that he was “proud” to be selected as the Liberal candidate for Chisholm.
He added that he focused on “working hard every day” as a “strong community voice for the people of Chisholm.”
“Families in Chisholm deserve a hardworking representative in the Federal Parliament, fighting to ease cost-of-living pressures and improving local community facilities.”
Chisholm has changed hands between Liberal and Labor in recent decades, often with a small majority.
Asked by Neos Kosmos how he intends to win back the marginal seat, given there was a swing against the conservatives in the last elections, Zographos said that his “focus is on the people of Chisholm, not on the polling.”
The new candidate said that Labor “has failed to deliver on their promise to lower electricity prices” and focused on cost of living issues.
“Essential living costs for families and local small businesses just keep rising,” said the Greek Australian.
He told Neos Kosmos that; “Labor has no plan for the economy, no plan for inflation, and no plan to ease the cost of living for Australian families.”
He said he plans to “work hard” to ensure the people of Chisholm’s “voice is heard.”
“I have a track record of delivery in Local Government, and I plan to translate that into Federal Parliament.”
