For Greeks, yoghurt is a staple, much like it is for Lebanese, Turks and Indians. In Australia’s multicultural landscape, we are fortunate to enjoy an abundance of high-quality yoghurt. As we all know real yoghurt, is also extraordinarily healthy. Yet, something unique has emerged in the market: Nisi.
Nisi Double-Strained Greek Yoghurt, Nisi meaning island, stands alone in sea of average yoghurts, and is a new offering from Elco Food Company, aims to redefine indulgence and authenticity.
Anthony Kotis, the force behind Nisi, is enthusiastic about the product’s potential to fill a gap in Australia’s yoghurt market.
“Nisi is thicker and creamier than regular yoghurt because it’s strained twice,” Kotis explains.
“This process removes excess liquid, resulting in a rich and indulgent taste experience. Plus, it’s high in protein, lower in carbohydrates, and incredibly versatile—great for cooking and easier to digest.”

While Nisi is available in natural form and various flavours, its authenticity is what sets it apart.
“The traditional way of making Greek yoghurt is by double-straining it,” Kotis says.
“We saw an opportunity to bring a truly premium, double-strained Greek yoghurt to market.”
The double-straining process comes at a cost, requiring specialised equipment and additional time, but the result is a product of superior quality. “It’s straightforward but meticulous,” Kotis adds.
“We use large strainers, and the extra step is worth it.”

Currently, Nisi is available in IGAs located in Greek-hot-spots areas like Oakleigh, as well as in the northern and western suburbs of Melbourne in specialty Mediterranean stores.
For now, the largest size is a 500-gram tub, but its launch has already garnered positive feedback from customers.
“Everyone who tries it loves it,” Kotis shares.
“It’s a huge market, and people appreciate the health benefits and creamy texture.”
As Nisi continues to make its mark, one thing is clear: authenticity and quality have found a home in Australia’s yoghurt aisle.
Whether you’re a seasoned yoghurt lover or someone looking to explore Greek culinary traditions, Nisi promises an unmatched experience.
