Greek cuisine has been crowned the best in the world for 2024-2025, surpassing global favourites like Italian and French, according to Taste Atlas, often referred to as the “world map of flavours.”

The ranking was based on 477,287 verified reviews covering 15,478 dishes in the platform’s extensive database. Greek cuisine’s vibrant dishes and fresh ingredients have secured it the top spot on the global culinary stage.

Taste Atlas highlighted some of Greece’s most renowned local products, including Aegina pistachios, Santorini fava beans, and Maleme oranges from Chania, all must-try items for food enthusiasts.

In addition to these products, the guide celebrated traditional establishments like the Stani dairy shop and legendary restaurants such as Antikristo in Chania, Pesketi in Heraklion, and the Ninos Tavern in Corfu, showcasing the diverse culinary traditions of Greece.

Greek specialties that have earned international recognition:

  • Serres bougatsa ranked 11th among the best breakfasts worldwide.
  • Thessaloniki’s trigona panoramatos (triangular pastries) were named the second-best dessert globally last year.
  • Saganaki was crowned the best cheese-based dish in the world.

Italian cuisine came in second place, followed by Mexican and Spanish cuisines in third and fourth, respectively. The top ten was rounded out by the culinary traditions of Portugal, Turkey, Indonesia, France, China, and Japan.
